Why NOT a Semi-Postal? Stamp Out Press Releases Fabulous Farley! Celebrity Support Stamp Endorsements USPS Criteria Please Mr. Postmaster! The Campaign Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section below, and history links on the left have been included on our website to answer any questions you may have about the campaign to win issuance of the stamps (1996-2001) How many letters has the USPS received? How do the S/N stamps fit in the context of the total 2002 US Stamp Program? How will the Stamps be introduced Why not a semi-postal stamp to raise "funds" for spay-neuter Tell us about running a campaign on shoestring budget! Where can we learn more about the national team work to promote the stamps? How many letters has the USPS received since Hope Tarr Launched STAMP OUT? The United States Postal Service received nearly 200,000 letters requesting a stamp on this topic, according to Terry McCaffrey, manager of stamp development for the USPS and as reported in Linn's Stamp News, September 10, 2001. How do the S/N stamps fit in the context of the total 2002 US Stamp Program? Every year the USPS received approximately 50,000 stamp subject requests! In 2002, they selected 22 subjects. Two of these subjects are social awareness issues. The two S/N stamps and a single stamp promoting the theme of mentoring a child. An important point to note! In addition to the whopping print run planned for S/N, we're coming out in a year that is seeing a drastic reduction in the overall number of commemorative stamps included in the program. As reported in Linn's, tthe 1998 program featured 51 subjects spread across 166 designs. In 1999 there were 58 subjects and 183 designs. The number of subjects in 2000 was slashed to 30 and the number of designs dropped to 147. Hope is proud that the spay/neuter subject made this increasingly tough cut and believe very strongly that its doing so speaks to the incredible outpouring of support for the Spay/Neuter Your Pet message and the inherent merit of the subject. ![]() Photo by Cliff Lipson, CBS How will the Stamps be introduced? Bob Barker, a tremendous friend to the animals, and the first national celebrity to support PaLC's STAMP OUT Campaign kicked off the national publicity by introducing the stamps on National TV on CBS's "The Price is Right" which aired on December 11th, 2001. There will be several select unveilings before the stamps go on sale. Of special note, the stamps will be publicly unveiled and an exciting new program, American Partnership for Pets" will introduce themselves at Tufts Expo in Boston, MA on September 12, 2002. The First Day of Issue (a one location event) will take place on September 20, 2002 in Denver at the American Humane Association's 125th celebratory Annual Conference. Additional celebrations across the nation will take place after the formal launch of the stamps, (To learn how you can participate in local celebrations, visit www.americanpartnershipforpets.org)! Why not a semi-postal stamp to raise "funds" for spay-neuter? This is a long answer, so click here to read our response However, please do be aware that the American Partnership for Pets (APP) has arranged for special spay/neuter stamp "merchandise with a message" for community partners to use to raise funds for spay/neuter assistance programs. Additionally APP has turned some of these stamps into fundraising stamps! We arranged for PETsMART to carry the stamps at above face value, with the difference going to PETsMART Charities (an APP partner) to provide grants for targeted spay/neuter programs. Also, local organizations may also re-sell the stamps at above face value for fundraising purposes! |
